A seven-year-old boy, who was assaulted with a sjambok, has been moved to a place of safety in Mtubatuba.

A seven-year-old boy, who was assaulted with a sjambok, has been moved to a place of safety in Mtubatuba.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development's Mhlabunzima Memela says they were called out to a home in Qakwini by concerned neighbours.
The department's calling on police to track down the suspect, who is a relative and apparently on the run.
"We heard that the dog died and then this guy arrived he took the sjambok and started assaulting the seven-year-old, accusing him of being the one who killed the dog.
"And he forced him to eat the flesh of that dog, but one of the neighbours who noticed that she actually came to the rescue of the child."
The little boy was taken for health checks and is receiving psychosocial support.
KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says they're investigating a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
"It is alleged that on the 22nd of August, a seven-year-old boy was assaulted with a sjambok by a relative. The victim sustained injuries on the body."
