KZN court sentences man to 15 years for rape

The Pietermaritzburg Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man for raping a 15-year-old girl.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said Loui Donovan Diedricks was sentenced to 15 years for rape.
“On 3 September 2015 Donovan raped a 15-year-old female whilst she was visiting her mother at Curry’s post area in Howick. He threatened the victim with a knife and pulled her into the nearby bushes where he raped her.”
The case was reported at Howick Police Station and the docket was transferred to Howick Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. Howick FCS members traced the suspect and on 26 October 2015 he was arrested.
Donovan was convicted and sentenced on 30 October.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the Howick Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the speedy arrest of the suspect.
“The manner in which the case was finalised shows that our members put all the necessary evidence before the court, as a result the accused was subsequently convicted and sentenced accordingly,” she said.
