KZN declared a state of disaster due to violence, looting - Zikalala
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has declared the province as a state of disaster due to the recent civil unrest in the province.

Some 250 people were killed and billions of rands in damage caused during the violence and looting KZN earlier this month.
The violence was sparked by the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma - and soon spread to Gauteng.
Zikalala said on Thursdaty that the decision was taken at a provincial executive council meeting on Wednesday.
He believes the state of disaster will assist the province in rebuilding its damaged infrastructure.
"We need to ensure that we rebuild quickly and that will allow us to reprioritize within the budget but also to ask relevant departments to make more contributions so that we are able to rebuild and repair the public infrastructure that has been damaged."
National government will decide the timeframe of how long the state of disaster will last.
"We have submitted to the national government, and we will be making the follow up on the submission and based on that, we will then know the timeframe," said Zikalala.
