KZN Health dismisses claims of overcrowding at Phoenix morgue
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
The Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal has dismissed as baseless claims bodies are piling up on the floor at a morgue in Durban.
The Democratic Alliance on Monday called on the department to step in, saying the Phoenix Medico-Legal Mortuary was overcrowded due to delayed post-mortems.
But MEC Nomagugu Simelane says there is no autopsy backlog.
"During the flood season, the officials that are working had to balance the influx of bodies that were coming as a result of the food and the bodies that were sent there by different facilities.
"But I do want to indicate that as of yesterday, we had concluded all the flood victims and we only had very few from the other facilities."
