KZN leads with over 5 000 active Covid-19 cases

KwaZulu-Natal currently has the most active Covid-19 cases in South Africa, followed by Gauteng.

The latest statistics were released by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize on Friday evening, following a day in which the Department and health authorities in Gauteng have expressed further fears over a third wave.   

 

KwaZulu-Natal has 5 541 active cases, followed by  Gauteng with 4 361 and the Free State with 4 116 infections.  

 

The minister says 67 more Covid-19 related deaths have been reported. 

 

"Eastern Cape 1, Kwa-Zulu Natal 5, Gauteng 13, Limpopo 26, Mpumalanga 2, Northern Cape 10 and Western Cape 10, which brings the total to 54 687 deaths," says the minister.  

 

The Free State and North West are the only provinces that recorded no new related deaths.  

 

For the third day in a row, the number of new infections has been above 2 000. 

 

Mkhize reveals the new infections stand at 2 256.
