A 26-year-old security guard, who went on a killing spree, has himself been killed in a shootout with KwaZulu-Natal police.

It alleged the 26-year-old began by shooting his 40-year-old colleague at New Formosa in Estcourt.

“The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the head and his body was dumped in the veld where police later found it. Following the initial murder, he went to a farm in Mooi River when he killed another security guard (42),” says KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker.

He then shot and killed his ex-girlfriend’s sister (34) as well as three children who are aged between five and 13 years old.

Naicker says the security guard then went and shot his ex-girlfriend before fleeing.

“He went to his ex-girlfriend’s place of employment on Alexandra Terrace where he fired several shots at the woman and bolted. The 25-year-old victim was conveyed to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

“Police officers intercepted him and he opened fire. The suspect was fatally wounded in the ensuing shootout. Police are investigating six counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and an inquest across three districts in KwaZulu-Natal.”
