KZN shisanyama Eyadini in hot water for flouting Covid-19 regulations

Popular KwaZulu-Natal shisanyama Eyadini Lounge says the group of tourists seen in a viral video were overcome with excitement after Orlando Pirates bagged the MTN8 on Saturday.

Eyadini Lounge party

This comes after a video circulated on social media showing partygoers forming a human chain, moving cheerfully through a packed venue.

Onlookers can also be seen drinking and smoking, seemingly unphased by the events unfolding before them.

The high-spirited crowd is not seen observing any Covid-19 protocols.

Eyadini owner Jabulani Zama says this was an isolated incident.

“When you arrive at the establishment’s gate, security sanitises patrons and asks for their masks to stay on, you cannot come without sanitising and you won’t be let in without a mask.

“That day Pirates was playing, the DJ played a popular song when the team won. The crowd got up to celebrate the victory and they danced, without their masks. We stopped them and asked them to put on their masks and observe social distancing. We explained government’s Covid-19 regulations to them and they understood,” Zama says.

He adds no more than 200 people were at the venue.

“It wasn’t packed, it was just the people going around in a circle. We are compliant with the regulations, there are signs around the venue. People just got over excited that day,” he explains.

Police in KZN are probing the authenticity of the video.

The video is among serval other videos that have sparked outrage and concern over the lack of adherence to protocols amid the rising infections.
