KZN teacher faces disciplinary action over caning pupils
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A KwaZulu-Natal teacher is facing disciplinary action after a video footage emerged of her hitting her pupils with a metal pipe.
The Education Department will meet with the Prince Tokotoko High School teacher and pupils shown in the video today.
The video that's been doing the rounds online shows the Nongoma teacher asking the pupils to bend over and hold onto a chair before hitting them.
The Education Department is warning teachers not to use corporal punishment.
Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says the pupils were apparently being punished for failing a test.
''We are gathering that it is not a once-off kind of incident in that particular school, it's something that normally happens.
''This is what we gathered from our sources. The law is clear, if you do this, this is what is going to happen to you,'' he said.
