KZN wraps matric marking process

Monday marks the last day for the 2015 national senior certificate (NSC) marking process, which started at the beginning of December.

Some centres have completed marking, with some finishing on Sunday. Others will be winding up on Tuesday, the department said.
Education MEC Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni had been keeping a close eye on the marking process from the beginning, and was inspired by the level of dedication and enthusiasm with which markers undertook their work at the marking centres across the province.
“We thank the team of our dedicated teachers, their assistants, and everyone involved in the marking process. They have all done a great job. And we remain indebted to them for the work they did.
“Our team that was monitoring the marking at various centres has also done a great job. Having this team made things go smooth all the times. It is also due to the presence of this team that we were able to immediately discover the water shortage crisis that had the potential to be a health hazard to teachers and their assistants at the James Nxumalo Agricultural School marking centre in Ulundi last week,” Nkonyeni said.
A total of 201,141 KwaZulu-Natal candidates registered for the NSC examinations. Of this figure, 171,820 were full-time candidates and 29,321 part-time candidates. This was an increase of 16.2 percent compared to the previous year.
