Ladysmith flood death toll rises
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Search and rescue teams in Ladysmith have recovered the bodies of six more people following a flash flood on Christmas Eve.
It's understood that heavy rains caused the Bellspuit river to burst its banks.
Water rushed onto the N11 in the Ladysmith town, washing away several vehicles and a house.
Two of the victims are believed to have been a man and his three-year-old child who were washed away at a caravan park.
IPSS Medical Rescue’s Samantha Meyrick says all those swept away by flood waters in the caravan park area have been accounted for.
"Unfortunately, they're still searching for the victims in the vehicle that were washed away."
" A lot of the search and rescue, especially Ladysmith search and rescue have been on scene since Sunday night, IPSS Pietermaritzburg search and rescue has been on scene since Tuesday so they have been working none stop all week."
This discovery brings the death toll from the Ladysmith flood to 13 people.
