Langlaagte teacher cleared of rape by ELRC

A teacher from Langlaagte Technical School, who was accused of raping a grade 8 pupil, has been found not guilty and ordered to return to the classroom.

Emmanuel Bruce Barden was accused of drugging and raping one of his pupils in his office at the school.
The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC), which heard the case, cleared Barden of all the allegations against him.
The ELRC made the ruling last week.

According to the evidence presented by the pupil, she was raped in September 2021.
She claimed that Barden raped her inside his office, and then offered her a cold drink which left her feeling drowsy.
