Late applications for Gauteng grade 1 & 8s set to close Monday night

Parents in Gauteng will have a few more hours to finalise late applications for grade 1 and 8 pupils.
The provincial Education Department is set to close late application for both grades at midnight on Monday.
Close to 30 000 late applications have been processed so far.
"As of today, a total of 26 482 late applications have received placement," Mabona confirmed.
This amounts to a total of 16 977 grade 1 learners and 9 505 grade 8 learners who have been placed during the late applications period.
"It must be noted that only schools that have capacity to place learners will be available," Mabona warned.
The start of the 2022 academic year saw many frustrated parents join snaking queues outside schools to try to find a space for their children ahead of the start of classes.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the department was able to resolve these issues.
The department also vowed to review the application system in preparation for the 2023 cycle.
