Latest #Covid-19 stats ahead of the gradual re-opening of SA’s borders

South Africa recorded 903 new Covid-19 cases, a day before the country’s borders will start to gradually re-open again for international travel.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced last month that international travellers from countries not deem a risk, will be allowed back into South Africa again from the 1st of October as part of Level 1.
Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday evening, show that the country has recorded a total of 672 572 Covid-19 infections since the beginning of the epidemic in March.
A further 81 Covid-19 related deaths were reported with Gauteng accounting for most of the new deaths at 28.

KwaZulu-Natal has recorded an additional 11 deaths, while the Northern Cape has recorded ten.
The Western Cape has recorded 6 deaths while Limpopo and Free State provinces have each recorded 5 deaths.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 16 667.
A total of 606 520 recoveries have been recorded with the recovery rate sitting firmly at 90%.
