A local resident who arrived at the cricket grounds for a practice session discovered the bodies on Thursday morning.

Laudium Cricket Club coaches Given Nkosi (24) and Charlson Maseko (26) had been killed.

Two cricket coordinators were also found brutally injured.

Nkosi's brother, Vusi Mpenza, says he was at work when he got the dreaded phone call.

"One of my brothers called me and told me Given had passed on. I was at work, and drove from Middleburg to Laudium. When I arrived, my brother had already been taken to a government mortuary for an autopsy," Mpenza says.

He says investigators told him his brother suffered severe head injuries.

"Investigators told me they were watching football last night when criminals broke the door and beat them with a steal rod on the head. I was told it was robbery," Mpenza explains.

He says his family is devastated.

"Given is my younger brother. My family is very heartbroken so we have to be strong and pray to God to make us stronger. My brother loved cricket and was passionate about coaching young children," Mpenza says.

Cricket South Africa released the names of the deceased and the injured.

KFC Mini-Cricket Coordinator Kagiso Mashubelele (27) and Laudium Hub Head Coach Obed Harvey Agbomadzie (27) are in a critical condition in hospital.

Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat says the news has come as a huge shock to the entire cricket fraternity.

"These are all dedicated cricket administrators and coaches who have been making a huge difference to the communities in which they operate, providing an important source of upliftment and hope, particularly to our youth."
