Lawyers: Xenophobia remains a reality

Lawyers for Human Rights will hold a press conference in Pretoria today to discuss an agreement between a coalition of communities against crime, poverty and xenophobia.

Following the spate of attacks on foreign nationals in 2008, the organisation joined forces with the Gauteng Civic Association and convened a meeting of community organisations who represent South African communities and foreign residents.

The parties managed to reach an agreement to form a coalition of communities and stand together against crime, poverty and xenophobia.

Lawyers for Human Rights is also expected to announce plans for a counter-march to the one called by the Mamelodi Concerned Residents against foreign nationals.
