At least 13 people killed in Limpopo truck, taxi crash

At least 13 people were killed in a crash between a truck and a minibus-taxi on the R521 between Polokwane and Dendron in Kalkpank on Tuesday morning.
It is reported that the taxi was transporting teachers on their way to work.
Speaking to the SABC News, provincial police commissioner Thembi Hadebe said the exact number of fatalities is still to be confirmed.
“As you can see, Jaws of Life entered the crime scene where we have cordoned off. It’s for them to check and make sure who is still breathing at this point in time but those chances are very little at this stage.
“I cannot say how many people are there up until they take out the bodies from the wreckage. Then we will be able to have the proper number.
Hadebe said the heavy mist over Polokwane this morning might have been a contributing factor to the cause of the crash.
“Once the pathologists have removed the bodies, they will obtain their details and we will prepare that they go for identifications by their loved ones in one of the mortuaries in Polokwane.
“This morning the whole Polokwane was very misty and that might have been a contributing factor to the cause of the accident, but we are still waiting for the investigation report to reveal what exactly happened with the two vehicles.”
The road will remain closed until further notice.
