At least 4700 hectares burnt as firefighters battle wildfire at Kleinmond

At least 4700 hectares of land have been destroyed by wildfire in the Kleinmond area in the Western Cape.
About 200 firefighters have been battling the blaze for four days.
Overstrand mayor, Annelie Rabie says the only uncontained lines as of Tuesday morning were below Perdekop above Kleinmond, Karwyderskraal, and Rooisand.
“These lines are still burning; resources (have been) assigned and active suppression is ongoing,” she said.
She said landowners and the agricultural community group helped to combat the flames.
“The burnout above Kleinmond was successfully executed,” says Rabie, noting that there was no threat to the town and infrastructure.
All roads leading in and from Kleinmond to Hermanus have been reopened.
“Crews worked through the night continuously to put out hot spots and cool down the vicinity of Arabella and Karwyderskraal,” said Rabie.
