‘Less severe’ cold front to hit Gauteng this week
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The South African Weather Service says another cold front is expected to hit Gauteng from Tuesday.
This is the latest in a series of cold fronts that has forced South Africans to unpack the beanies and scarves this month.
Gauteng experienced bitterly cold weather on Friday morning with some streets in Hillbrow covered in ice.
But forecaster Venetia Phakula says the latest cold front will not be as severe.
“Following last week’s cold front, this week will be much better. The temperatures are starting to pick up over most parts of the country, though there is still another cold front expected on Tuesday. It might make landfall on Wednesday.
“The cold front is weaker than the one that we previously had so it will not have too much of an impact, especially over interior provinces. So we are not expecting any drop in temperatures at least for the rest of the week.”
Phakula says the country can expect temperatures to start warming up from September.
“We are still on our winter season. August is more of a transition seaso, we will see those cold temperatures every now and again as we transition to the next season. But in September we should have warm temperatures again.”
