Lesufi: Gauteng schools off to a good start

Grade 7 and 12 pupils returned to the classroom on Monday after a lengthy closure due to the Covid-19 national lockdown response.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi says he is satisfied with the progress made by schools across the province as the academic calendar kicks off on Monday.
Lesufi joined Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, on a drive to ensure safety compliance at schools, including Olievenhoutbosch Secondary School in Centurion.
He says assessments made in the morning indicate that schools are off to a good start.
“We want to thank parents that have entrusted their children with us, that believed us when we said we are ready,” says Lesufi.

He adds all schools are up and running, except for 14 damaged during a spree of vandalism during the lockdown period.
The 14 schools will remain closed until repairs have been completed.
“In the last three weeks we saw a surge, and we really think they are organised. Who will go to our schools and deliberately damage toilet seats and taps and basins?" said Lesufi.
The remaining grades are expected to return in the coming weeks.
