Lesufi to make e-tolls announcement 'next week'
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Gauteng Finance MEC Jacob Mamabolo says Premier Panyaza Lesufi will make an announcement on the scrapping of etolls during his State of the State of the Province Address next week.

Mamabolo spoke at the debate on the State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Tuesday.
During the 2022 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said the national government would scrap e-tolls and absorb the debt by paying 70%, while the Gauteng government would cough up the remaining 30%.
Since then, there has been very little in the way of announcements by either the provincial or the national government.
The Gauteng provincial government, which has the responsibility to settle the R12,9 billion bill, was expected to raise the funds through various revenue streams.
Mamabolo said Lesufi will make an announcement next week.
"We welcome the announcement made by the Minister of Finance [Enoch Godongwana ] when he said government will absorb the debt with a split between Gauteng government and national government. We did say that we will approach national government with a plan to say how we are going to pay and next week the premier is going to make an announcement on this matter.
"Let's welcome the premier's announcement," said Mamabolo.
