The ANC’s Panyaza Lesufi was re-elected as the premier of Gauteng during Friday’s sitting of the provincial legislature.
Lesufi was elected unopposed.
He was previously elected into the position in October 2022 following the resignation of David Makhura.
In the Gauteng legislature, the ANC holds 28 seats, followed by the DA with 22 and the EFF with 11 seats.
Gauteng Judge President Dunstan Mlambo presided over the first sitting of the Gauteng legislature in Selbourne Hall.
“We have been asked to work together, to work together we will do,” Lesufi said, referring to the national unity government agreement signed between the ANC and the DA.
“We have been asked to combine our ideas for a better Gauteng, and to combine our ideas, we will do. We have been asked to leave no one behind, and today we can declare that no one will be left behind,” said Lesufi.
