Lesufi vows to defeat 'those who want to fly apartheid flag'
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the old South African flag will never be flown at any of the province's schools.

He made the remarks during his department's budget vote in the provincial legislature.
Lobby group AfriForum has turned to the Supreme Court of Appeal to appeal an earlier Equality Court ruling which declared the gratuitous display of the flag as hate speech.
“We are also touched by those that believe they can bring back apartheid flag in our community," Lesufi said.
"Those that have gone back to court to request that this apartheid flag must be flown again, must know that we will defeat them when that time comes."

Lesufi said the flag represents pain and misery for the majority of South Africans.
“There will be no apartheid flag that will be flown in any of our schools in the province regardless of the outcome of the court case.
"Our view is very simple, there is only one flag in this country, any other flag that is not the flag that we know in this country must be defeated.”
