LETTER: DA, EFF and Zuma asked to settle
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Parties demanding that President Zuma pay back the money for Nkandla are studying a letter by the Constitutional Court.
The letter, written to the Democratic Alliance, the Economic Freedom Fighters, the Public Protector as well as President Zuma gives the parties until 4.00pm on Friday to settle the Nkandla matter out of court.
If not, arguments will be heard 9 February 2016.
The EFF, and later the DA, approached the highest court in the land in 2015.
Following the upgrades at Nkandla, which has plagued most of Zuma's presidency, the president on Tuesday evening offered to pay back some of the money spent on non-security upgrades at his private homestead in KwaZulu-Natal.
During a press briefing in Cape Town after the announcement, the DA said they would proceed with their Concourt case, regardless of President Zuma's announcement.
"The DA notes the settlement offer made by President Zuma but contends that the contents of his settlement offer do not comply with the remedial actions as ordered by the Public Protector in her report entitled Secure in Comfort," the DA said.
The DA said they want legal certainty about the Public Protector's powers.
Meanwhile, the EFF is expected to address the matter at noon.
