A Limpopo businessman committed suicide after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend during an altercation on Tuesday.
Local members of the community reported hearing gunshots shortly before Ivone Mushwana (40), who was a teacher at a local primary school, was apparently killed by her boyfriend Khashane Malatji (45) near a local scrapyard near Tzaneen.
The police's Moatshe Ngoepe says Malatji’s body was later found at his home with a gunshot wound and a firearm lying next to him.
"They (the community) immediately went to investigate and they found lvone lying dead on the ground and the boyfriend ran away and disappeared. The police were notified, they reacted swiftly and started with the initial investigations and also started tracing the boyfriend.
"Within few hours of hunting, the boyfriend Khashane Willy Malatji, who is a local businessman, was found dead in his house at Nkowankowa outside Tzaneen with a gunshot wound and the firearm lying next to his body.”
Ngoepe said the motive of the killing is unknown but police suspect that it was an act of domestic violence.
"A case of murder is being investigated and that there would be an inquest into the man's death."
