Limpopo chief’s home attacked
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects believed to be behind an attack on a local chief’s home in Limpopo.
Provincial police spokesperson Motlafelo Mojapelo says it’s alleged a mob marched to the home of Chief N’wamitwa, demanding to see her on Sunday.
However, he says they were quickly turned back after the police informed them the march was illegal.
The crowd dispersed peacefully, Mojapelo says.
However, they later regrouped and marched towards the chief’s homestead, this time barricading the road and burning tyres and debris.
"On arrival at the chief’s homestead they damaged the gate and smashed the windows of two vehicles which were inside the premises,” Mojapelo explains.
Police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, subsequently leading to the possibility of an injury that is currently being investigated.
Public order police members have been deployed in the area to monitor the situation.
The motive behind the protest is being investigated.
A case of public violence and malicious damage to property is under investigation.
