Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
The community of Tzaneen is in shock after a local police
officer shot his wife, a fellow member of the police, before turning the gun on
himself.
The 44-year-old Warrant Officer shot his wife, 43-year-old Sergeant Yvonne Moyana, in the presence of their children at their home in the Limpopo town on Saturday morning.
The three children were immediately taken for trauma counseling.
Provincial police commissioner Nneke Ledwaba visited the scene of the incident on Saturday afternoon.
"We are saddened by the loss of two police members under preventable circumstances,” Ledwaba said.
"The SAPS has internal structures that provide assistance to its members who might be going through any strained domestic issues and members are urged to make use of these structures."
The motive for the killing is not known and a case of murder is being investigated.
