The Department of Education in Limpopo has denied ownership of hundreds of books found at a dumping site.

Last week Wednesday books were found at a dumping site in Polokwane.
The department's spokesperson Sam Makondo says they contacted the police as soon as they were made aware of the situation.
"The matter was brought to our attention last Friday. Our team went out to investigate and they discovered that these books belong to three publishers and we do not know why they were there.
"So because these books are not ours, we reported the matter to the police as lost and found books. The books are now with the police because we don't have any missing books a per our records."

Makondo says all schools in the province received their textbooks in November.
"As a department, we must emphasise that we finished the delivery of textbook last year November and we not received any report from any of our schools that they have not received their orders."
