Limpopo farmer shoots couple after ‘mistaking’ them for hippo

A 77-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder after he shot at a couple while they were fishing at Mogol river in Lephalale.
The man claims to have mistaken the couple for a hippopotamus.
The shooting happened on Wednesday near the Rietspruit farm.
Police spokesperson Mamphaswa Seabi says police recovered two rifles, one revolver, one pistol and two airguns.
"During the incident, a 38-year-old woman sustained a gun wound and while her partner managed to hide, he immediately informed the police and emergency services. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
“Police have opened a case of attempted murder and the suspect will appear before the magistrate’s court in Lephalale on Thursday."
