Health officials in Limpopo are on high alert as the festive season kicks off.
The province expects to see an influx of people crossing their borders as the country goes into holiday-mode.
Limpopo is among the provinces least affected by the pandemic, with 19 138 cumulative cases, 465 active cases and 515fatalities.
Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba says they'll monitoring the province closely to ensure it doesn't become an epicentre for Covid-19 during the busy period.
"It's too soon for us to think we are safe as a province but what we can indicate is that this honeymoon is on our province can soon be over.
"We are facing the festive season. Limpopo has been declared as a tourist destination by many citizens without the country and even outside the border of South Africa and as such, as a province we are working together with Economic Development Department and Tourism to make sure we continue with the educational messages."
Polokwane and Lephalale municipalities are not out of the woods.
Four other municipalities are also areas of concern.
Ramathuba says resources will be pumped into these problem areas.
"We are worried in terms of monitoring our recent cases," she adds.
Ramathuba adds she's disappointed that citizens have become complacent, have stopped adhering to protocols and require policing.
She further warns funerals and other gatherings could be the country's undoing.
