Mukhethwa Tshivhase allegedly beat his mother to death with a broomstick earlier this month.

Provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says Tshivhase attacked the 58-year-old woman over a dispute about food.

He claimed his mother hid food in her bedroom, refusing to dish up for him.

“After that argument,  the suspect became angry, he picked up the broomstick and assaulted his mother,” says Malabi-Dzhangi.

“The mother tried to run away but she collapsed at the gate.”

Malabi-Dzhangi adds the woman was rushed to Donald Fraser hospital where she was certified dead on arrival.

“The case is postponed to 29 September to obtain family members statements.”
