The half-naked body of 24 year-old Karabo Kgomo was found by the side of a road on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Kgomo suffered wounds to her head from what they believe was a brick. It is also suspected that she was raped.

After the discovery of her body, community members cornered 23 year-old Jeffrey Tumelo, accusing him of Kgomo's murder.

Police spokesperson Ronel Otto said Tumelo attempted to flee from the crowd but he was overpowered, assaulted and set alight.

He died on the scene.

"No arrests have yet been made in connection with any of the two murders and investigations are continuing," Otto said.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola, condemned the incident and urged community leaders and the religious fraternity to work with the police to bring the perpetrators of both murders to book.

"We cannot allow members of the community to take the law into their own hands and brutally kill another human being to justify the killing of another," he said.

"This community must now come together under the mantelship of their leaders to expose those responsible for these despicable deeds so that proper justice can be served" he added.
