Limpopo MEC Mashamba passes away

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed the death of Limpopo MEC for Agriculture, Joyce Mashamba.

She passed away on Wednesday following a long sickbed.
Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha paid tribute to Mashamba, hailing her as one of the most senior politicians in the province who "executed her responsibilities with diligence".
She led various portfolios in the provincial government including MEC for Education, Safety, Security and Liaison, as well as Sport, Arts and Culture and Social Development.

"She dies at a time where the ANC and the alliance are going on a conference from tomorrow. Her wisdom, her presence makes sense, makes a difference within this alliance. Although very few words, just her presence and a veteran of the struggles of the people of Limpopo - would make a difference honestly," says Kenny Mathivha, spokesperson for the Limpopo Premier's office.
The veteran politician was married to ANC stalwart George Mashamba.
The details of the funeral are yet to be released.
