Police in Phalaborwa have launched a manhunt for a robbery suspect after a house was targeted on Wednesday evening.
It is believed that two suspects intruded into the house of a 67-year-old man and attacked him.
The man was assaulted with unknown sharp instruments on the head and tied with curtain ropes.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says when the suspects saw police approaching, they sped off in in the victim’s vehicle.
“They ransacked the house, robbed the owner various items, and loaded them into a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the victim and drove off.
“The suspects lost control of the vehicle on a road between Makhushaneng and Phalaborwa. One suspect managed to run away and another sustained serious injuries. He was arrested and rushed to local hospital under Police guard. He later died in the hospital.”
Ledwaba added that a revolver and other fire arms were recovered.
“The stolen properties were recovered at the accident scene and three firearms were also seized as 1x revolver (serial number filed off), 1x Norinco (serial number filed off) and one 9mm Parabellum pistol.
“The deceased suspect is known but not yet identified by his family.”
Police investigations are continuing.
