Limpopo prison official nabbed for alleged rape

An official from the Department of
Correctional Services in Limpopo has appeared in court in connection with the
rape of a 19-year-old woman.
The 41-year-old suspect, whose name is known to Jacaranda FM News but cannot be named until he has formally pleaded, works at the Kutama Sinthumule maximum prison in Limpopo.
He allegedly forced the victim into his car at gunpoint last month.
Limpopo police’s Moatshe Ngoepe says after firing two shots at the woman, he forced her into his car, and drove to a lodge in the Makhado area where he allegedly raped her.
The teenager reported the incident to the police who later arrested the suspect.
Police also recovered an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of ammunition during the arrest.
The suspect briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody.
He is expected to appear in court again on Wednesday when he will formally apply for bail.
The man is also facing charges of the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
