Limpopo towns left with only 49 days of drinking water

The Department of Water and Sanitation has warned that Mookgopong and Modimolle in Limpopo only have drinking water for the next 49 days.
The department says the Donkerpoort and Frikkie Geyser Dam levels have plunged significantly.
Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says Donkerpoort Dam and Frikkie Geyser Dam have plunged to 14 percent and 12 percent respectively, leaving the two towns with approximately 49 days of drinking water.
Ratau says the Modimolle-Mookgophong, Local Municipality has been left with no choice but to apply strict water restrictions.

"The municipality has taken stringent measures towards the reduction of the use of water from 125 litres to 97 litres per person per day.
"In addition, the municipality has put aside R18 million for the replacement of its ailing water infrastructure."
The department will visit Modimolle and Mookgopong later this month as part of attempts to solve the situation.
The team visiting the area will comprise of DWS officials from Pretoria and Polokwane,.
The department will visit schools, shopping centres and an old age village in Modimolle to educate locals about the importance of saving water.
