A 63-year-old woman was shot dead and her daughter wounded in Sasekani, Ritavi, on Tuesday, Limpopo police said.
A man allegedly stormed into the elderly woman's home without saying anything and when she asked what was wrong he started shooting, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.
Police found two women in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. The elderly woman's daughter, 40, was still alive and taken to hospital.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect was in love with the deceased's younger daughter," he said.
The two had allegedly had a fight. The younger daughter was not at home at the time of the shooting.
"Domestic violence cannot be ruled out as the motive behind this brutal attack," Ngoepe said.
The alleged shooter, 35, fled in a white Volkswagen Polo with two other men. Ngoepe said police received information that they were on their way to Johannesburg.
