Liquor traders plead for responsible drinking over festive season
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Liquor traders and shebeen owners are pleading with South Africans not to ignore Covid-19 regulations and protocols over the festive season.

Convener of the Liquor Traders Formation Lucky Ntimane says responsible drinking is now important than ever.
"Our call to citizens during this difficult time is to exercise caution, care, and observe all Covid-19 regulations. The issue of responsible consumption is at the heart of our call to citizens to conduct themselves in a manner that supports the government in its effort to fight Covid-19.

"Of course, we are going to be affected in our business operations because of the restrictions but we accept that this is a sacrifice we all have to make. Liquor traders who break the law should face the full might of the law even if it means they lose their licenses," said Ntimane.
There are fears that the consumption of alcohol and ignoring of Covid-19 protocols could lead to a further spike in Covid-19 infections over the coming festive season.
