[LISTEN] 40 dogs die in mass poisoning in Roodepoort
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) has confirmed the death of 40 dogs in Roodepoort after they were apparently poisoned by house burglars.
The dogs are said to have been poisoned with a substance called Aldicarb, which is banned in South Africa.
CLAW director Cora Bailey claims that the poison is easily obtainable through informal trading.
“The product is sold freely on the streets. It’s sold in all taxi ranks even in our area it is sold outside railway stations.”
Bailey says that the poison has excruciating symptoms on dogs, including vomiting and diarrhoea.
“We urge owners to keep pets indoors at night.”
