[LISTEN] ATMs, shops looted at Mbombela mall

Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a group of robbers who looted items from the Acornhoek Mall in Mbombela.

The gang struck in the early hours of Friday.
Police believe some 15 shops were looted.
Spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the suspects broke down one of the doors and helped themselves to various items in the shops.

“The suspects also reportedly detonated certain explosives to have access to cash at the safes, as well as ATM's. The suspects then fled the scene with the stolen items, including an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Police officials indicated that on their way to the scene they heard gunshots coming from different directions and called for backup. Upon arrival at the scene, they found that the suspects had fled.”
