[LISTEN] Bodies recovered of South Africans who drowned in Mozambique
Updated | By Bishop Baloyi / Press Statement
The bodies of all four South Africans have been recovered,
five days after they drowned on the Mozambican Portuguese Island.
The Limpopo Province, assisted by the Department of International Relations and Co-operation, the South African Embassy and the Mozambican authorities, has confirmed that the last body was recovered this morning.
Two of the deceased were from Groblersdal in Limpopo, while the other two were from the Free State.
Spokesperson for the office of the Limpopo premier, Kenny Mathivha, says the bodies were recovered not far from where they drowned.
“The bodies of Lesego Matsepe, Mmatholo Mogafe, David Kaise and Gregory Mfune will be repatriated back to South Africa with the assistance of the Department of International Relations”, says Mathivha.
Three of the four survivors are also on their way back home, while the first survivor arrived in South Africa earlier this week to receive medical treatment.
The group of young people left for the Mozambican island last week end to celebrate a birthday.
According to reports, they were caught off-guard by a wave on Monday.
The search was temporarily called off two days later, due to the high sea.
