A Cape Town mother is relieved after her infant was returned to her on Monday following a hijacking.
A frantic searched ensued earlier in the day when a hijacker made off with Alicia Lampercht’s car.
Her 7-month-old baby boy was still in the car.
It’s understood Lampercht was handing over a package to a friend when the suspect jumped into her car and drove away with the toddler sitting in a baby seat in Observatory.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect tossed the toddler from the moving vehicle before it was rescued by a community member.
Lampercht said her baby was unharmed.
“Literally within a minute of receiving the call, my husband was on site with the police and paramedics were on site as well to have him checked out.
“He’s ok but we’re all just slightly emotional but we’re just happy to be back together, we’re happy we found him and that the community relied together to find him.”
The hijacker also made off with other valuables in the car.
“Everything else is irrelevant in the bigger scheme of things so we’re happy to just have our child back,” Lampercht adds.
A possible suspect has been identified but no arrest has been made.
