LISTEN: Clover to meet unions on Friday
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Food and
beverage company Clover will be meeting with striking unions of Friday.
Employees affiliated with General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (Giwusa) and the Food and Allied Workers Union (Fawu) have been on strike for nearly ten weeks.
Friday’s meeting follows an earlier announcement that Clover has obtained a court interdict against striking workers whom they believe to be guilty of intimidation and violence.
“I am at the venue as we speak, we are meeting with the unions and government facilitators today for the second time, we are very clear on what we proposed,” says the company’s spokesperson Steven Velthuysen.
Velthuysen says they believe the offer made to the unions, to bring the salaries down but within market value, is reasonable.
“We feel is a reasonable alternative, we feel that unions should consider it strongly. We feel that we’ve come to the party, and we’ve come to the table with reasonable offers.
“It’s now to the unions to take it up with their constituency and how they will take it forwards.”
