[LISTEN] Covid-19 infections in Gauteng schools surge to 4,706
The Gauteng Education Department says it is concerned about the increase in Covid-19 infections in schools.
The number of Covid-19 cases linked to the province’s school now stands at 4,706.
Spokesperson to the department, Steve Mabona says 2,857 pupils have contracted the virus.
"When you look at educators coming from all sectors... the total number there [of infections] comes to 1509," says Mabona.
He adds 195 admin workers are infected, followed by 82 general assistants, and 63 youth brigade workers.
Mabona says the department is working closely with the Department of Health to monitor the situation at schools.
He says the department is excited about the vaccination of teachers that is expected to take place soon.
