LISTEN: Creation of Task Force good move from NPA, says CASAC
The National Prosecuting Authority on Wednesday announced that they will be creating a task force to in response to the Zondo commission’s first report.
This comes after the commission of inquiry into state capture released the first of three reports.
In a statement the NPA says “the Task Force builds on the work already done within the NPA over the past few years, in collaboration with the Zondo commission and other law enforcement partners”.
Lawson Naidoo, from the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC), says there needs to be a coordinated response from law enforcement and the Task Force is a step in the right direction.
“I think it’s a good move from the NPA, there needs to be a concerted response from the law enforcement agencies to the recommendations that are contained in the Zondo commission report.
“It does list the number of implicated people against whom further investigation and prosecution is required and we really need to see the NPA and the Hawks upping their game in order to ensure that these investigations and prosecutions will happen.”
