An eyewitness told Jacaranda FM News that the suspects randomly opened fire.
“We thought it was an accident because there were so many cars across the road and we saw a suspect pulling out something like a fire extinguisher from the boot but it was actually an AK-47 rifle, and he started pointing at everyone who stopped, and they started shooting and they were pulling security guards out of their van.”
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst says the injured were taken to the hospital.
“At 10:21 Friday morning, Netcare 911 responded to a shooting on the N1 near Murrayhill Road in Pretoria, reports from the scene indicate that a cash-in-transit vehicle had been ambushed. Three guards had sustained minor to moderate injuries, not related to any gunshot wounds, and were treated on scene.”
