LISTEN: 'Fetch our money from Dubai and cap fuel levy'
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Hundreds of members from the DA, ACDP, FF Plus, Cope and anti-tax organisation OUTA picketed outside National Treasury in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The group, under the banner of the Freedom Movement, protested against the rising cost of fuel and the increase in value-added tax.
“We are begging you for a R1 reduction on the fuel levy, go and fetch our money in Dubai that was stolen out of Eskom, Transnet and Prasa, a R100 billion was stolen, fetch it and subsidise the fuel as in yesterday,” OUTA’s Ben Theron told a crowd of a few hundred protestors.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane said the removal of former president Jacob Zuma did not signal an end to corruption.
“Zuma didn’t steal on his own, he was the head of a syndicate organisation that never stops stealing, they are stealing everywhere, they will continue to steal. Let us learn from the people of Zimbabwe that just because you remove the leader it doesn’t mean the party will change.”
The group is also demanding that the Road Accident Fund (RAF) be placed under administration and a debate be tabled in Parliament to review its structure.
