[LISTEN] Horror crash involving two taxis from Lesotho
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
A collision between a car and 2 minibus taxis has left 13 people dead and 6 injured in the Free State.
The Provincial spokesperson for the department of Public Works, Roads, Transport and Community Safety, Hilary Mophete, says the collision took place at approximately 3am this morning.
The two taxis were on route to Durban from Lesotho on an apparent business trip to buy supplies and groceries.
"An oncoming white BMW lost control and hit the first taxi. The first minibus taxi then collided head-on with the second which caught fire," says Mophete.
All the passengers are suspected to be from Lesotho.
Mophete says they are in the process of locating the next of kin, but it is proving to be a challenge as 'the deceased are burnt beyond recognition and it might take time to identify them".
The department is currently working with other stake holders such as emergency services, hospitals and SAPS in an attempt to identify the victims.
Listen as Hilary Mophete explaining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
