[LISTEN] ‘I feel vindicated’ - Johan Booysen
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss Johan Booysen says he feels vindicated by prosecutions boss Shamila Batohi’s decision to withdraw racketeering charges against him and his co-accused.
On Tuesday, Batohi announced that a unanimous decision by a panel - put together to provide her with a legal opinion - to overturn the charges.
The prosecution of Booysen and his co-accused was instituted by former Prosecuting Authority (NPA) heads Nomgcobo Jiba and Shaun Abrahams on two separate occasions.
The charges relate to the actions of a unit of the police based in Cato Manor.

The high court in Durban set aside Jiba’s decision to prosecute, but Abrahams reinstated the decision in 2016.
Booysens says the announcement only reiterated the 2012 ruling.
"Well, I welcome the decision by the NDPP to withdraw the charges against me it confirms what I have been saying all along that there is no evidence against me for racketeering or any other charges for that matter.
"You have to see this in conjunction an earlier court fining in the high court in Durban where the judge rolled that there was no evidence sustaining any charges against myself, so I feel absolutely vindicated."
