[LISTEN] Limpopo Health wants to deny booze to unvaccinated people
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba says she wants talks with liquor
outlets and tavern owners to convince them not to sell alcohol to unvaccinated customers.

The alcohol sector has been in government’s crosshairs since the start of the pandemic, with a ban on the sale of the product introduced on several occasions.
Ramathuba says the Health Department is now lobbying the alcohol industry to work with government, as the booze sector is the hardest hit during the constant waves of Covid-19 infections.
“The heading and the headline is a little bit misleading, but nevertheless, what we are saying as the Limpopo Department of Health, is that what we have seen happen each time we get into a wave (of Covid-19 infections) the alcohol industry is the one that is being hard hit.
“If we don’t put up strict regulations on alcohol or ban alcohol, we are forced to be dealing with alcohol-induced trauma cases and we find them competing with Covid-19 patients . . . (therefore) we are lobbying the alcohol industry, saying to them lets work together this time around.”
