A police officer, stationed at Linden Police station in Randburg, has been arrested for allegedly raping a female detainee.
The Independent Police investigative Directorate's spokesperson, Grace Langa, says the woman was arrested for fraud.
"It is alleged that the 25-year old was arrested for fraud and detained alone in police cells. Its alleged that at 2am on June 28 the police officer went to her cell claiming he was going to assist her in giving her statement, but then raped her", she says.
The woman was able to report the alleged rape to another police officer and she was rushed to a clinic for medical attention.
The police officer appeared in the Randburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday and the matter was postponed to July 7 for a formal bail application.
